Klima Arena

Sinsheim

Changing the climate. Shaping the future together.

The Klima Arena in Sinsheim has focused on the causes and consequences of the climate crisis since 2019 with a hands-on exhibition and an accompanying theme park, while also inspiring people to protect the climate and promote sustainability. We were commissioned to develop a holistic, narrative exhibition concept and to redesign the mobility area.

Circles Connect

The circle as a basic form defines the future exhibition design of the Klima Arena in Sinsheim. Circles connect, symbolize community, cohesion and development. Right at the entrance, luminous concentric circles welcome visitors and lead them into the exhibition. This circular design language continues throughout in various forms: in exhibition graphics on walls and floors, in illuminated section titles, opening questions, and ceiling installations. Real objects, combined with circular ceiling lights, clearly mark the boundaries of each exhibition area. Existing section terminals are also integrated into the new exhibition concept using circular screens and structures.

Planet A – Mission Future

There is no Planet B, we must protect life on Earth as a community. This central guiding principle forms the conceptual framework of the exhibition and connects the previously separate thematic areas into a holistic experience. Visitors embark together on an interactive mission to confront climate change and transform our world sustainably. At various thematic terminals, they explore pathways of transformation and become actively involved. A space for exchange, discussion, and networking is created — for a future that we shape together.

At the end of the exhibition, key findings are visually reflected in an immersive tunnel, impressively staging the collective experiences of the visitors. The shared journey through the exhibition becomes tangible — both emotionally and intellectually. Visitors leave the space not only with clear impulses for personal action but also strengthened by the feeling of being part of an engaged community.

The existing terminals are reused with sustainability in mind. They receive a new visual design. Content-wise, they take on a new role as well: they anchor the storyline interactively within the exhibition and enable visitors to participate individually in the Mission Future according to their interests.
With minimal structural modifications, repurposing of existing screens, and modern scenography, an outro is added to the exhibition, elevating it to a distinct area. An immersive tunnel guides visitors to the exit while extensively reinforcing the storyline.

New Mobility Area as a Catalyst for the Traffic Transition

The mobility area takes on a fresh look—both visually and narratively. It is integrated into the circular design language of the entire exhibition. Newly designed exhibits inspire visitors to take action and change their habits: How can sustainable mobility work? What planning options exist, especially in rural areas? What daily commuting routes do visitors take, and how can these be improved? The new exhibits complement the existing mobility area, enriching it with innovative content and new scenographic elements, bringing it to life as an engaging and tangible experience space.
